In this session we described the thinking behind WLMA's new Student Award for Informational Text. We talked about our process of setting up the award and how we decided to name it in honor of our friend and fellow librarian Bill Towner. The ten nominated titles were shown and we shared how librarians can address common core objectives using text sets created by the committee.

I've uploaded the session Powerpoint here: Towner.pptx

Here are the Text Sets in Word format: Towner Award Text Sets 2014.docx

Here is our list of additional recommended titles (copyright 2012) Towner Award 2014 Recommended Titles.docx

The text sets can also be viewed on our wiki: http://towneraward.wikispaces.com.

A terrific guide to assembling your own text sets can be found here: http://www.louisianabelieves.com/docs/teacher-toolbox-resources/guide---how-to-create-a-text-set-for-whole-class-instruction-grades-k-12.pdf

There's another document on creating text sets which I'll post here when I get the URL.

Thanks for coming!
